Steven and I believe that it is important to learn something totally new each year.  Sometime after Lily was born, he decided to teach himself how to play the guitar.  It could have been a silly phase and the guitar could have been easily forgotten in a dusty corner of our home, but somehow, four years (of practicing just minutes a day) blew by and now he can Google the chords to any song and play it quite well.  Last year, we started skateboarding which was so much more fun than either of us expected.  This year, we were inspired by a recent trip to Club Med Phuket to perfect our archery skills.  Is there anything that you've learned, or tried to learn, as an adult?  Do you think that old dogs, as it were, can learn new tricks?  I'd love to hear your stories!

I love my Canon 600D, I really do.  The expensive lenses, white balance and stabilizing technology helps me to achieve crisp, clean, warm colored images in even the most dingy, fluorescent-lit settings.  That will be the camera I reach for when I want perfection.  Somehow, I derive even more pleasure from the relative lack of control that iPhone photography or pinhole photography allows.  I think the serendipity of capturing a beautiful image with such restriction is what excites me the most.

10 Things to do in Singapore

Check out this awesome blog by my new favorite food photographer Matt Armendariz.  His images are beautiful - elegant, yet unfussy.  He also happens to have written a wonderful entry on his culinary adventures in Singapore.

I find it strange how the memory of a vacation takes on a dreamlike quality after one has returned home.  It may very well be my jetlag, but the images from the days spent at the beach in Miami - blinding sun, endless ocean, a smiling Abu with silver hair blowing - seem truly fantastic.

Lily was very proud to be the gnocchi sous chef.  I had heard of her grand auntie Mosha's famous gnocchi, and hadn't had a taste until she cooked us a special dinner upon our arrival in Miami.  Delicious!

Dan Zanes and Friends!  Thanks to Auntie Marisa and our new friends Saskia and Luna, we saw not one, but two shows at Sesame Place in Langhome, Pennsylvania.  Lily was asking about seeing them in concert even before we reached New York, and she hasn't stopped talking about it since!

A playground near our departure gate at Changi Airport.  Genius!  More airports should have lounges like this.

Eddie Vedder

I am in love with Eddie Vedder's new album, "Ukulele Songs."  Here is a taste - Longing to Belong.
