058/365 - Jacob Ballas Children's Garden
The Jacob Ballas Children's Garden is an excellent place to take early risers - it opens at 8am and admission is free. It's part of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and lets children learn about plants through exploration and play. There's a massive treehouse to climb, herb gardens to touch and smell, waterfalls, suspension bridges, ponds and even a water play area to splash around in. Lily's favorite plant to visit is the touch-me-not (mimosa pudica), a garden weed here in Singapore whose leaves fold closed when touched. We usually bring our own picnic - there are plenty of grassy areas and shaded benches to rest and snack on. However, there is also a small cafe at the entrance that sells snacks and ice cream.
